Product Introduction

MOEORW-WHP71 Polarity & Group Resistance Tester - also known as Intelligent Transformer Polarity Discriminator, Transformer Winding Group Verifier, and CT/PT Auxiliary V-A Characteristic Testing Tool. This instrument is purpose-built for fast and accurate determination of winding polarity and group affiliation on various transformers (current transformers, voltage transformers) and power transformers in field environments. It completely replaces the traditional dry-battery tapping method, overcoming the long-standing issue of negligible induced current and unresponsive pointer deflection under high-ratio conditions.

Core Technology & Operating Principle

The unit employs adaptive pulse excitation technology, injecting a stable electronic pulse signal at a specific frequency into the primary winding. This signal maintains constant amplitude regardless of the transformer ratio - even for CTs with a ratio as high as 3000/1, the secondary side yields a response clearly recognizable by the internal high-sensitivity circuitry. The embedded algorithm is based on weak electromagnetic induction signal capture and digital threshold judgment, fundamentally different from the traditional pointer-meter method that relies solely on induced current for physical deflection. The unit contains no mechanical adjustable components; all decision thresholds are factory-fixed, guaranteeing long-term calibration-free operation.

Product Application

Scenario 1 - Pre-commissioning verification of newly installed CTs/PTs in substations
Dozens of CTs and PTs in new or expanded substations must undergo individual polarity checks before energization to ensure correct differential protection and directional overcurrent relay operation. A single operator using the HP71 can complete testing on over a hundred windings in one day, drastically shortening the electrical commissioning schedule.

Scenario 2 - Winding connection verification after major transformer overhaul
After transformer tank lifting or winding replacement, the group affiliation of each side (e.g., Yd11, YNd1) must be re-confirmed. The HP71 quickly verifies whether the high, medium, and low-voltage winding correspondences match the nameplate, preventing startup accidents caused by wiring restoration errors.

Scenario 3 - Polarity matching after on-site replacement of a faulty CT
When a single-phase CT is replaced, the new CT's polarity must align with the other two phases in the same bay. Without disconnecting existing wiring, the HP71 directly clips onto primary and secondary terminals for rapid comparison, ensuring correct polarity matching before grid connection.

Scenario 4 - Winding identification for auxiliary transformers in power plants
Multiple station-service and excitation transformers within a plant often have complex winding labels, and missing drawings frequently lead to wiring confusion. The HP71 iterates through all winding combinations, using the buzzer to confirm each affiliation one by one, assisting operators in re-establishing accurate winding records.

Scenario 5 - Polarity verification for CTs paired with distribution automation terminals (DTU/FTU)
In smart distribution grids, polarity coordination between electronic transformers and merging units is critical. The HP71's weak-signal recognition capability perfectly matches the low-level outputs of electronic transformers, providing on-site validation for correct sampling phase angles at distribution terminals.

Product feature

Feature 1 - One-person operation, full labor liberation
The traditional method requires two persons working in tandem (one tapping the battery, one observing the pointer). The HP71 integrates all operations into a single handheld unit, allowing a single tester on site to independently complete both group identification and polarity determination - cutting manpower input by 50% while eliminating misjudgments caused by communication errors between two operators.

Feature 2 - Dual acoustic & optical feedback, no visual scale reading
Results are delivered via a combination of buzzer (auditory) and red/green LEDs (visual). The tester does not need to stare at a dial scale or interpret pointer swing amplitude - a simple "sound on/off" and "color" give a definitive conclusion. Especially in dimly lit switchgear cabinets or under strong sunlight in open yards, the auditory channel serves as a reliable backup to vision, ensuring dependable results in any environment.

Feature 3 - Polarity-free test lead connection
The L1/L2 and K1/K2 jacks are designed with non-polarized inputs - testers need not remember battery polarity or meter lead orientation. Simply plug in either way and start testing. This subtle detail greatly reduces on-site mental burden, cutting new-employee training time from half a day to just 10 minutes.

Feature 4 - Instant start, zero warm-up
The instrument enters ready-to-test state immediately upon pressing the power button - no warm-up or self-check waiting required. For field patrol work that involves frequent start-stop cycles and multiple test points, the cumulative time saved is substantial.

Feature 5 - Mistouch-proof button layout
The group test button and polarity test button are arranged in separate zones on the panel, with differentiated key travel and actuation force to prevent accidental adjacent pressing when operating with gloves - a design that perfectly accommodates the real-world condition of field personnel wearing insulating gloves year-round.
