Cable Fault Locating System

Product Overview

This integrated system consists of three core units:

MOEORW-W9200 cable fault tester, cable path finder and acoustic-magnetic synchronous locator. It is a complete professional solution for fault diagnosis, route tracing, depth measurement and high-precision pinpointing of overhead and underground power cables with a working voltage up to 35 kV.

Combining Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) and impulse flashover technologies, the system is capable of detecting open circuit, short circuit, grounding, low-resistance, high-resistance leakage and high-resistance flashover faults on power cables, communication cables and metal pipelines. Equipped with a 15 kHz amplitude-modulated signal transmitter and an acoustic-magnetic synchronous positioning module, it supports one-stop operations including fault distance rough measurement, cable path searching, buried depth detection and accurate fault location.

All units adopt IP67 industrial-grade sealed enclosures and built-in rechargeable batteries, featuring compact structure, light weight and superior portability. With strong anti-interference performance, stable operation and comprehensive protection functions, the complete set is widely deployed for power grid operation, industrial power distribution and municipal cable maintenance.

Working Principle

1. Cable Fault Tester: Low-voltage electrical pulses are transmitted along the cable. Reflected pulses are generated at impedance mutation points such as fault locations and cable joints. The main unit calculates the fault distance according to the time difference between transmitted pulses and reflected pulses. For high-resistance faults, impulse high voltage is applied to break down the fault point and form an instantaneous short circuit to achieve effective distance measurement.

2. Cable Path Finder: The device outputs 15 kHz electromagnetic signals to the cable. Based on the characteristic that the signal intensity reaches the minimum directly above the cable, the buried route and buried depth of the cable can be determined.

3. Acoustic-Magnetic Synchronous Locator: It synchronously receives electromagnetic waves and seismic waves generated by fault discharge. The distance between the probe and the fault point is calculated via the propagation time difference of the two types of signals, and high-precision pinpointing is realized by combining sound perception and signal strength judgment.

Main Features

1. Hardware & Structural Design

1.Integrated three-function design integrates fault ranging, path tracing and pinpointing into one complete set, simplifying equipment matching and on-site deployment.

2.Adopts IP67 fully sealed industrial enclosure with dustproof and splashproof performance, suitable for harsh outdoor field environments.

3.All units are equipped with built-in rechargeable batteries to support off-grid field operation; the system is fitted with complete overvoltage, overheating and overload protection circuits.

4.Combined operation of touch screen and physical adjustment knobs ensures flexible operation and adapts to different operating habits of users.

2. Testing Performance

1.Full coverage of cable fault types: applicable to open circuit, short circuit, low-resistance and all categories of high-resistance faults on cables rated up to 35 kV.

2.Multiple optional pulse widths eliminate testing blind zones, adapting to both short-distance and long-distance cable detection scenarios.

3.Global waveforms and local enlarged waveforms are displayed synchronously; multi-waveform acquisition and comparison functions are available to lower testing errors and ensure reliable results.

4.The 15 kHz dedicated anti-interference signal effectively suppresses power frequency interference and television line frequency interference. The acoustic-magnetic synchronous technology greatly reduces the influence of ambient noise during positioning work.

5.Digital distance display delivers intuitive positioning results, so field operators do not need to conduct complex waveform analysis.

3. Application Value

1.A full-process solution for cable maintenance: one complete set of equipment completes all procedures from fault rough measurement and path confirmation to final pinpointing.

2.Equipped with detailed on-screen prompts for simple operation, which can be mastered quickly by non-professional operators.

3.Built-in data storage function supports saving waveforms and test data for file archiving and retrospective analysis, meeting the requirements of daily cable management.

4.Compact and portable design makes it ideal for mobile inspection and emergency fault repair in the power industry.

Safety Specifications & Daily Maintenance

1. Safety Rules: Testing is strictly prohibited in flammable environments or areas with high concentration of combustible gas. Fully release residual electricity from equipment and cables before disconnecting all wiring after high-voltage tests. Reliable grounding must be ensured during impulse flashover operations.

2. Maintenance Requirements: Clean the equipment and connecting lines after each use. Store the devices in dry and ventilated places. Recharge the batteries regularly if the equipment will be stored for a long time. Do not disassemble internal components without authorization.

3. Operation Sequence: Connect all wiring first before switching on the power supply; cut off the power completely before removing any connecting lines.

FAQ

Q1: No valid waveform appears during impulse flashover tests?

A1: The fault point is not broken down. Properly increase the impulse voltage. Do not keep applying high voltage continuously for a long time.

Q2: The locator always shows a reading of 500.0 m during pinpointing?

A2: The probe is too far away from the fault point, or the fault discharge is insufficient. Move the probe along the cable route and raise the impulse voltage appropriately.

Q3: Signals cannot be received during cable path detection?

A3: Check whether the cable grounding wire is completely disconnected, and adjust the output power of the path finder.

Q4: How to select the proper pulse width for cables of different lengths?

A4: Select narrow pulse (0.05~0.2 μs) for cables within 400 meters; select wide pulse (2~8 μs) for cables over 400 meters.
