FAQ

1)Field instrument displays voltage only, no current reading

【Symptom】After connecting current and voltage leads at the field site, the instrument displays voltage but no current reading.
【Cause】The calibrator uses a 5A clamp meter for current measurement, but the test parameter input mode is set to 5A terminal input, or configured for 100A, 500A, or 1000A clamp input modes.
【Solution】Press the "Q" key or click the " " icon to enter the test parameter settings dialog box. Click the input selection dropdown menu and correctly choose either "Clamp Meter" or 'Terminal' based on the on-site wiring configuration. If using current terminals to measure current, setting the instrument to "5A Clamp" input will also result in no current display.

2)Calibrator displays no meter error

【Cause 1】The photoelectric sensor is not properly aligned, or the pulse cable is not connected to the meter's pulse output terminals, or is incorrectly connected.
【Solution】Realign the sensor. Ensure the photoelectric sensor's pulse indicator flashes only once when the mechanical meter's black mark on the dial passes by.
Reconnect the electronic meter's pulse output terminals. Verify whether the output or ground terminals are correctly connected, or if the reactive pulse output port is accidentally engaged.
【Cause 2】During active power calibration, the actual active power on-site is very low, or the power factor is very low;
【Diagnostic Method】If the active current is too small or the active power is very low, the meter takes a long time to generate a pulse signal. Check if the total active power on the calibrator is too low.
【Solution】If the on-site current is too low, wait. If the power factor is low, implement reactive power compensation.

【Cause 3】During reactive power calibration, the actual reactive power at the site is very low, or the power factor is very high;

If reactive power is very low, the meter takes a long time to generate a pulse signal. Check if the total reactive power on the calibrator is too small.
【Solution】If the current at the site is too low, wait.

3)On-site meter calibration error exceeds tolerance or exhibits excessive fluctuation

【Symptom】During on-site meter calibration, the displayed error hovers around 3% and remains unstable, with significant variation between consecutive readings.
【Cause 1】Actual on-site current is too low (below 0.02A), falling outside the meter's guaranteed accuracy range. This causes excessive meter error.
Cause 2: Excessive harmonics at the site. When harmonics exceed 10%–60% (or even higher), calibrating certain reactive meters in such environments may yield errors exceeding 200%. Switch to fundamental or full-wave measurement modes to observe error changes and determine if a more robust meter is needed.
【Cause 3】Excessive current fluctuations at the site. When high-power impact loads are present, significant current fluctuations can disrupt the meter's energy measurement. This requires additional turns or time for the error to stabilize. If this condition persists long-term, a high-speed meter replacement is necessary.
【Cause 4】Interference from sunlight when using a photoelectric sampler to capture signals; or interference from reactive power signals when capturing photoelectric signals from electronic meters.
